We saw lots of bison when we were in Yellowstone Park. They act as though they own the place. This one was strolling across the front grounds of the Lake Hotel. Behind is Yellowstone Lake. Overhead is the plume from the Arnica Fire, which added some drama to our visit. When I took this photo the fire was about five miles from the Lake Hotel, where we were staying in a cabin. The hotel personnel were working at clearing underbrush around the hotel, and setting up the outdoor sprinkler systems.

Ooh, nice. And, yeah, the bison (and the elk, esp. around Mammoth) really do own the place [g].

I second mmegaera's opinion on ownership of Yellowstone! Humans only secondarily.
