At some point soon, LiveJournal members will be required to click their acceptance of new Terms of Service as a result of the Movable Type acquisition before they can log in. Presumably the new TOS will be acceptable to most, but just in case people who care about their data ought to back it up to a device under their control before then. I am using ljcharm to do so. This requires that your PC runs python, which is (I think) standard on Linux, and can be installed on Windows.

I took to automatically saving all my posts -- typed into Notepad and then cut'n'pasted into the LJ comment box -- to disk at the beginning of last year. But perhaps this method works best for those who only post infrequently (like me) and never post anything other than pure text.

Thank you.

I didn't know about this program -- who knows, I might end up needing it.

Roughly once a month i use http://www.livejournal.com/export.bml to get an XML copy of the previous month. It was part of why i decided i would use LJ -- the ease with which i could get a copy of my stuff on my disk.
