I updated to the Hardy Heron Ubuntu Linux release candidate today with remarkably little fuss.

This may be of some interest . . .

Curious to know your reaction to this. . .or is server security irrelevant?

The ubuntu desktop turns off all network ports by default, so a firewall would be redundant. I'd worry more about the network facing router than our desktops. Usually the only server software I install is secure shell server (SSH) so I can access them remotely from within our LAN. I do have a web server running on this desktop, since I want to be able to prototype changes to my web log locally.

When Linux malware is found in the wild, I'll install one of the malware scanners, but right now it seems pointless. I don't scan for Windows malware on mail attachments since I use gmail for all my mail.
