I usually do one organizational project New Year’s day or the closest weekend thereof. Usually, this involved cleaning out closets or something similar. This past weekend, I recabled my PC and its many peripherals so that I could actually turn off the power to peripherals except when I use them. Since I have a ton of USB peripherals, I had to match up USB bridges with power strips as well. I even did a little cleaning while I was down there.

In my reorganization, I employed a new Power Sentry 5-Outlet PowerSquid Power Multiplier. I thought it was very cool when I saw it on a website a year or so ago, and it came in very handy extending power between the UPS and the tower and monitor.  My computer desk is rather massive, which makes it difficult to get to the connections on the PC.

Oh, those jumbled masses of cords and plugs and things. Makes me cringe to think of them. Maybe I will look at a Power Squid next time I'm in...oh, I can't go to CompUSA anymore. Well, someplace like that.

Amazon has better prices (a lot) than Office Max where I bought it. Of course, that hardly counts, since I always end up buying stuff to make the minimum for free shipping.

I too cleaned under my desk & organized up the power strip. The squid is cool, but i haven't that much of an excuse for it.

Happy new year!

It's nice to get it done. I like to have the time to not only do it, but test that everything is still working. I am astonished my how many things with transformers that I have to keep hooked up at least part of the time, though two things aren't connected to the computer: my cell phone charger and my battery charger.

Heh. And under *my* desk are 3 surge suppressor strips and a UPS. Which latter is probably getting to be underpowered.

Oh, yeah. And ah whole lot of dust bunnies.

I discussed the loads with Jack and we decided I wasn't pushing the capacity of the two outlets everything feeds from. However, it is nice to know that I have all the crucial stuff on the UPS. We had a lot of short blackouts last summer. I'll probably consider powering everything down when I leave the house this summer since I am working now and not here to shut down my PC if the UPS starts beeping.
