The Electronic Freedom Foundation is researching individual browser configurations to see how unique they are at Help EFF Research Web Browser Tracking. I wasn’t surprised to find out that my configuration is unique since I run Google Chrome on a Linux system. What did surprise me was learning that websites know what plugins I am running. They also provide a Primer on Information Theory and Privacy.

Our conclusion? These new “privacy” changes are clearly intended to push Facebook users to publicly share even more information than before. Even worse, the changes will actually reduce the amount of control that users have over some of their personal data.

One of my few regrets about our trip to Australia in 1999 is that we only had one day in Sydney. Here, at least, is an Aerial Virtual tour of Sydney, Australia, though figuring out the navigation is a bit tricky.

I’ve started using a plug-in which will allow commenters to subscribe to comments for any particular blog post, because I like that feature on other Wordpress web logs. You should see a check-box underneath the text field for the comment.

Since we live in a rural neighborhood, our choice of options to connect to the Internet are rather limited. For the past four or five years, we have used wireless broadband to connect to a tower that is line of sight to the east of us. It is a system that works quite well, except when it doesn’t. At 6:30 am this morning, it stopped working. Unfortunately, one of the peculiarities of the small company that provides our service is that one can only contact them via a web form. Usually, I call Jack and ask him to submit the trouble report from work, but this doesn’t work on a weekend.
On the bright side, I had to leave the house anyway and decided to see how the wireless access at the Monument Library works with my laptop. It works quite well, fortunately. All that is required is a library card and a PIN.
