I gave the horses a treat and opened the gate to what we call the new field this morning. Rags lost interest in his hay and marched briskly to the field and started grazing in the gateway. Hap saw he was being left behind and followed at a trot, coming to an abrupt stop so he wouldn't infringe on Rags' space. (Rags is the boss gelding.) Then Hap pretended to spook at something and both horses exploded into gallop into the field. By the time Hap reached the center of the new field he was doing a fabulous extended trot. Rags, who has soundness issues, was also trotting, but reminded me more of a dancing hippopotamus than a high level dressage horse. Smoke joined them shortly thereafter. All three are grazing in a tight little herd with their heads together.

I love being able to watch my horses from the house.
