My friend Roz has started a blog called Into The Woods, where she illustrates her woodland walks in England. She has some lovely pictures of snowfall at What a Difference a Day Makes.

Stephanie, at A Year of Slow Cooking, has an unnatural obsession with her slow cooker.  She’s okay with that.

Yet Another Journal, written by a friend in Atlanta, has some fabulous photos of birds in the snow at her feeder.

On those days when you would rather dwell on the misfortunes of others rather than your own, visit DOING IT WRONG, where photos document the plight of those whose day is worse than yours.

NowDoThis is one way to get things done: it has a very simple interface which allows you to enter a list and then click on each successive item when done.

As far as blogs go, they don’t get much more special-interest than this blog devoted to video game inspired crafts: Sprite Stitch. I’d be tempted by the Space Invaders Guitar Strap if I still did cross stitch.

Not only is it fun to vote for the 2008 Bloggies, it is a good way to find web logs you may have missed.

Morticious Thrind is a weblog with an interesting option for a theme: a CLI (Command Line Interface) that looks similar to a bash shell. The commands “last,” “prev,” and “next” can be used to navigate through the blog posts. Jack would love it.

Wardrobe Refashion is a group weblog with an interesting premise: the people involved “Pledge that I shall refashion, renovate, recycle pre-loved items for myself.”

I saw this magnificent Texas Longhorn steer at the National Western Stock Show in Denver yesterday. Few of my photos turned out, due to my reluctance to use flash photography without warning, so go see Connections and look at her photographs in her blog posts Reminiscing!, Cattle Judging, and Hats, Hardware and Humor. She used to exhibit livestock herself, and writes about her memories.

I had been avoiding Stock Show and similar events for several years, since I didn’t know how strenuous I would find it considering my heel problems. However, although I was exhausted when I got home last night, I rated my pain as a two this morning. Since most mornings these days I rate the pain as two to four (on a scale of one to ten) I was quite pleased.

sugarfused.net has a new look for the New Year. Fortunately, she announced her redesign in a web log post, since I normally read her web log using a feed reader.

I have been reading Techdirt,a technology news weblog, for years. It has a spiffy new look, and unlike a lot of tech web sites, I don’t have to install Adblock before I can stand to read it.

I just upgraded to Wordpress 2.0.1 using the instructions at Upgrading WordPress in less than ten minutes and everything seems to be working. The real question: “Can I get used to WYSIWYG editing in a browser text area?”

Jack arrived home from Scotland on Friday. I was unclear on the details of his itinerary, and was very happy when I found out from the airline that his flight was direct from Glasgow to Chicago, avoiding the mess at Heathrow. He has been spending some time writing up his adventures, so check out his account at exempli gratia. The first thing I asked him when he got back was whether he got to play the Old Course.
